Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Homayoun Haeri said that cryptocurrency miners have to pay for electricity at the same tariffs as for electricity exports, according to the Iranian economic newspaper Financial Tribune.

According to him, the government annually pays out about $ 1 billion in electricity subsidies. At the same time, when the government spends its own funds to cover the gap in real energy costs and the fact that consumers pay, Iranians receive income from mining cryptocurrencies. So, according to Haeri, miners have the opportunity and must pay for electricity in full.

Note that Iran demonstrated a positive position in cryptocurrency production in September last year. This happened after the main government agencies – including the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, the central bank, the Ministry of Energy and others – accepted the mining cryptocurrency as an industry. At the same time, the Iranian National Cyberspace Center began developing a platform for regulating the mining of cryptocurrencies, and the relevant authorities began to consider the development of a regulatory framework for this.

Also, in order to stabilize the economy, the Iranian government is considering the possibility of launching a state-backed cryptocurrency.
