A leading Swiss online store Digitec Galaxus, announced that it will now accept cryptocurrency as a payment. This information was published in a press release on March 19.

According to the report, the store will now accept the next cryptocurrency: Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Bitcoin SV (BSV), Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), Binance Coin (BNB), Litecoin (LTC), Tron (TRX ) ), NEO (NEO) and OmistGO (OMG). But the cost of the purchase should be over CHF 200 (about $ 200). The release also states that the store has about 2.7 million products, ranging from wheat beer to gaming PCs.

It is reported that the new payment method was developed as part of a joint pilot project with the Swiss payment processor Datatrans and in cooperation with the Danish company Coinify. The system opens 15-minute windows for clients, during which the exchange rate cryptocurrency does not change in order to make a payment. The fee for this service will be 1.5%.

Oliver Herren, Chief Innovative Director, said he was not completely convinced of the benefits of blockchain over traditional database systems.

“But perhaps I just did not spend enough time to fully understand how the blockchain ecosystem works.” – he added.

According to the ecommerceDB ecommerce platform, the net sales of Digitec Galaxus in 2018 amounted to more than $ 261 million, and the store, launched in 2010, is the 341th largest online store in the world.

Other major international retailers also considered the idea of adding cryptographic payment options to their platforms, given the adoption of Overstock.com Bitcoin payments in 2014.
